2021-2022 Safe Learning Plan - District 2903
August 17, 2021
District 2903 Students, Parents, and Staff,
Good morning. Last night at the District 2903 Board Meeting the Safe Return To School Learning Plan was approved. See attached. This plan will be made available to view on the District website as well.
The Ortonville School District is committed to providing a safe environment for students, staff, and community members. We believe it's important that we all remember to respect the decisions and actions of others in our community while we seek the common goal for a safe learning environment. With guidance from the CDC, MDH, and our own local health care partners, this plan allows for local control while primarily following the recommendations set forth by the Minnesota Department of Health. A few of the highlights from our plan are shared below.
Face coverings for students, staff, and visitors are not required but are strongly recommended. District 2903 will maintain a limited supply of face coverings for students or staff who choose to wear them.
Health Screening, Quarantine and Isolation:
● Self-Screening for symptoms of illness is a practice that keeps us all safe. If you are ill, stay home.
● Ortonville Schools will notify any staff, students, or family members of anyone who may be in close contact with a person who tests positive for COVID-19.
Dropoff Lane: In order to help with pickup/drop off of students, an established “lane” will be used starting on Monroe Street at Door 1 thru Door 2 for grades K-6. All preschool parents should use Minnesota Avenue only for their drop off or pick up location. Parents will not be allowed to walk their child into the building. Paraprofessionals will be stationed at each door to help students. All students should be dropped off in front of door 1 or 2 and then walk to their designated numbered door to enter. NEW for ‘21-’22 - Tiny Trojan Child Care (3s and 4s) should be dropped off directly at Door #11. See below.
Door Location: To minimize large groups of students congregating in one area upon arrival/departure, grade levels will be assigned a specific door that they should use throughout the year. All doors are labeled with numbers. Paraprofessionals will be stationed at each door to help students as needed.
Door 1: PreK-1
Door 2: 2-4
Door 3: 5-6
Door 4: 7-12 Bus Students
Door 7: 7-12 Drop off students
Door 9: 10-12 Student Drivers
*Administrators, supervisors, and employees are all responsible for implementing this plan. The goal is to mitigate and minimize the transmission of COVID-19 in our work environment and will require full cooperation of our employees, students, and all families. Ortonville Schools will be following all MDH recommendations and guidance throughout the pandemic. There are links provided within the Safe Learning Plan to connect directly to the Minnesota Department of Health. Just like you layer protection in your car by wearing a seatbelt, following the speed limit and making sure you have a properly working airbags, brakes, and tires, you also want to layer protection against COVID-19 including 3' social distancing where possible, washing hands, regular dissinfecting, vaccination, and staying home when symptoms may appear.
This plan is subject to change as needed to keep students and staff safe. District 2903 wishes to thank parents for their grace, flexibility, and understanding as we move forward throughout the year. We trust parents will make decisions that are best for their own child while keeping the best interests of everyone in mind. Please call me at 320.267.4092 if you need further clarification or have any questions or concerns. I'm excited for the learning year ahead and look forward to seeing your child at Open House coming up Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 3:30-7:30 PM. We're in this together!
This updated learning plan was reviewed and approved by the Ortonville School Board on August 16, 2021.
